This site is purely a personal writing experiment and project. I am a historian of the 20th Century United States, and I have several friends and colleagues in US History who also regularly contribute to this site and to the twitter account.
The interviews, memos, presented here and the "tweets of LBJ" on twitter are fictious, but based upon the collective thousands of hours each of us has spent with LBJ's thoughts and words in his archival records. LBJ's comments on modern politics are based upon a researched extrapolation of how he would fall in present political debates. Our historical pieces here are anything but fictitious. They are carefully researched pieces of history.
Lyndon Johnson, the character presented here and on Twitter, tries to come across like the private person, few knew. Quick witted, mercurial, a story teller and often vulgar. While Johnson was entirely a political animal, with little time or patience for other passions and hobbies, he was nonetheless, according to Bill Moyers, "eleven of the most interesting people I've ever met."
Should anyone find some edification and entertainment from this website and the twitter account, then we will be delighted. Please share us with friends and others. The content here will only ever be free.
